An Introduction to Lifetime Testing by Thermogravimetry
Lifetime testing by thermogravimetry (TGA) is a well-established, powerful technique for predicting the long-term aging characteristics of a material in a short experimental time. Multiple techniques and models are presented and compared for lifetime testing, including Modulated TGA™, and a survey of the current ASTM methods and the dominating reaction mechanisms of several important polymers. The impact of thermal analysis, especially thermogravimetry, on the past, present, and future of lifetime testing is explored.
