Testing is performed under axial-torsion, planar-biaxial or axial-shear loading, to more complex three and four axis loading that includes torsion, bending, shear and pulsatile forces to address the nuances of combined states-of-stress that are typically seen in real life conditions. Multiaxial testing is often performed as the final test scenario for critical use situations in medical, auto and aerospace applications.
Multiaxial testing also serves to validate finite element modeling often created from uniaxial material test data. Oftentimes, modeling alone cannot predict the true interaction of material behavior if it relies solely on simple uniaxial material mechanical properties. Additionally, many regulatory entities responsible for the safety and efficacy of products, such as the medical and transportation industries, have stringent expectations to perform such multiaxial tests.
ElectroForce® test instruments are configurable to meet many specific multiaxial testing needs. Whether it is to perform biaxial tests of pericardium, or to understand the biomechanics of spinal disk implants and peripheral stents, or to evaluate the tribological properties of dental materials, ElectroForce instruments provide a versatile alternative to traditional technologies.
